Where have the international math olympiad gold medalists ended up part five of three
The math adds up
If you’re subscribed here and you don’t personally know me, there’s a good chance that you stuck around because of my series on where the international math olympiad medalists have ended up.
Recently there’s been more activity in the space and I thought it might be relevant to direct you to other people who are writing about this.
Deedy Das, venture capitalist and famous linkedinfluencer used AI agents to do what I did with
sweat, blood anda lot of free time. And he basically did it better than mine in every way so kudos to him. It’s a great read, has visualizations that don’t look like they were taken directly from excel and matplotlib, and covers more than just math olympiads and more than just gold medals.Rupak Ghose, who knows more about trading firms revenues and pay than anyone should, wrote about it and while most of the article is paywalled, the bits I could read seemed pretty cool.
Semona0X went deep on the China to US talent pipeline, showing that after Kaiming He joined MIT in 2024, a large number of Chinese medalists started joining his lab.
Julia Willemyns at the Centre for British Progress wrote about the flows of UK students with IMO medals, concluding nothing too strongly but affirming that the UK has had good talent retention.
Anyway it’s all interesting stuff. Hope you enjoy!

Glad you're back!
